Straight River Farm began in 2002 when owners Bill & Maggie Hein moved Bill's Backyard Berries
from White Bear Lake to Faribault, in Rice County, Minnesota. Bill brought 10+ years of
strawberry growing, and a lifetime of farming experience, with him.
In the 2008 strawberry season, we picked on about 5 acres of strawberries and were open for
pick-your-own and pre-picked strawberries for 3 weeks in June through early July, as well
as marketing through several Twin Cities farmers' markets. Check the strawberry link for more
information about strawberries, and the pick-your-own link for what's happening in the
strawberry field now.
We also have a small summer raspberry patch where you can pick-your-own or request
pre-picked raspberries during the summer raspberry season, which usually starts around July 1
-- just as the strawberries finish up -- and are available for about 3 weeks. The raspberry link
gives updated picking information as it's available.
Our 5 acres of apple trees continue to grow well; they put on quite a show at blossom time! We
have 7 varieties, including many Minnesota developed apples: Haralson, Honeycrisp, Honeygold,
Regent, and Zestar! We're especially excited to have Zestar! in our orchard. Zestar! is a new
early variety from the University of Minnesota with great flavor, exceptional crispness, and good
storage life. The apple link has more information about each of the varieties. We're sorry, but
pick-your-own apples are not available at our orchard. We currently market all of our
apples through farmers' markets, and the markets we attend are listed on the apple page during
the apple season.

Here are directions for finding us during strawberry & raspberry
seasons:
From Faribault -- Option 1: Take Willow St south past Donohue's nursery to County Rd 19
(Glynnview Trl). Turn left on CR 19 & go 1 mi to 220th St E (the 1st gravel road). Turn left on
220th & follow it 1.7 mi to Straight River Farm (3733 220th St E).
From Faribault -- Option 2:: Go across the MN 60 viaduct towards Kenyon. About 2.5 mi from the
viaduct, turn right on Davis Ave. Go 2.2 mi to 220th St & turn right. About 0.7 mi on 220th will bring
you to Straight River Farm.
From Owatonna -- Option 1: Take I-35 to the Medford exit & go east into Medford. At the 4-way
stop in Medford, turn left & follow CR 45 north 1.7 mi to 270th St. Turn right on 270th for 0.5 mi to
CR 21 (Cabot Ave). Turn left on CR 21 3.2 mi to CR 19 (240th St). Right on 240th 1.2 mi to Dahle.
Left on Dahle 2 mi to 220th St. Left on 220th 0.3 mi to Straight River Farm.
From Owatonna -- Option 2: Take I-35 to the Medford exit & go east into Medford. At the 4-way
stop in Medford, turn left & follow CR 45 north towards Faribault. Turn right on CR 19 (Glynnview
Trail). Go 1 mi on Glynnview to 220th St E (the 1st gravel road). Turn left on 220th & proceed 1.7
mi to Straight River Farm (3733 220th St E).
From Morristown: East on MN 60 through downtown Faribault. Follow MN 60 across the viaduct
about 2.5 mi to Davis Ave. Turn right on Davis & go 2.2 mi to 220th St. Turn right on 220th & go
0.7 mi to Straight River Farm.
From Kenyon: Take MN 60 west towards Faribault. Turn left (south) on CR 89 (Evans Trail) 2 mi to
220th St. Turn right on 220th about 2 mi to the farm.
